PDI was selected when the Newfoundland lumber facility doubled kiln capacity with a new MEC track kiln for additional lumber production. The new zero-ash carryover system is an indirect fired system with no ash carryover to the kiln. This avoided the need for a boiler and allowed the use of waste fuel at the site. The use of the waste fuel helped the facility manage a waste residuals challenge and avoided the need for other far more complicated and expensive capital solutions. The system was a 25MM BTU/hr waste wood burner with PDI’s custom heat exchangers all installed to heat two full kilns with one burner and fuel system. The capacity of the energy system was validated nearly immediately after startup.
